WE didn’t have a meeting last month as it was our visit to Bodenham Arboretum.

How lucky we were with the weather. It was a gorgeous sunny day.

We met at the arboretum and of course the first stop was coffee, sitting by the lake.

Several members decided to do one of the walks while the others were content to just sit in the sunshine and have a nice chat.

Wehadadeliciouslunchinside the restaurant and looked round the shop and plants that were for sale.

We all returned to the village hall in the middle of the afternoon as we were going to have a tea party to celebrate Fairfield WI’s 80th birthdayandthe Jubilee.

Out came all the Union Jack plates, table cloths and serviettes and a lot of the cakes had a red, white and blue theme. It all looked fantastic and very colourful.

It’s amazing that even though we ate at lunchtime we still managed to partake – I am afraid some of us more than others.

A lovely birthday cake had been made and Mary asked us all to raise our glasses of bubbly in celebration of our 80th birthday. We also toasted the Queen.

She then presented flower arrangements to five members who will be celebrating their 80th birthdays in 2012.

Finally, Mary congratulated one of our young members, Emma, on her recent engagement.

The raffle was won by Shirley Walker, second was Meriel Scurrell with Karen Winters third.

We all had a fabulous day and thanks to the committee for organising the birthday tea.

The next meeting is today (Wednesday) at 7.30pm. The speaker is Jill Salmons on body artaroundthe world. Thecompetition is for your favourite summer hat.

Do come along as you will be very welcome.
