Blackwell and Burcot WI
The first meeting of 2016 was held on January 13 at Burcot village hall. Subscriptions for the year were collected. The president wished everyone a "Happy New Year" and welcomed all including three new members and one visitor.
The business included dates for the AGM in Brighton on June 11th and the Group Spring Meeting hosted by St Catherine's WI on April 14. We were reminded that our next meeting on February 10th will be a soup, followed by apple crumble lunch. There will be a Skittles afternoon on February 23rd , and a visit to the ballet "Sleeping Beauty". Members will be asked to show their preference for our summer outing suggestions.
The end of year report from the Treasurer stated that our funds are healthy, but we would have to continue with a certain amount of fund raising to maintain that position.
We were then treated to a recital of original poetry from six Withybed Poets. They all had different styles: descriptive, thought-provoking and amusing. Subjects varied from rhubarb, the canal, windows and the WI, and all were very much enjoyed. A vote of thanks was given, the raffle drawn, and then everyone enjoyed a cup of tea, a biscuit and a chat. Do join us!
