MAY I, through your letters column, please ask local motorists not to park across lowered kerbs which have been specifically provided to help people reliant on wheelchairs or powered mobility scooters?

This is contrary to section 243 of the Highway Code and renders them completely unable to fulfil their intended purpose, which is to provide easy road crossing points for people with limited mobility.

On the morning of Saturday, June 14, my wife parked our car to leave the lowered kerb on the south side of Victoria Square, Droitwich, outside the off-licence, free from obstruction so that it could be used as intended.

She immediately suffered two separate road rage incidents from two other female motorists.

Both yelled at her for not parking over the lowered kerb area which would then have freed sufficient space for another car to park.

My wife was shocked at the ferocity of the two incidents but had the presence of mind to point out to both motorists that there was a lowered kerb and that it needed to be kept free.

Both women drove off without further comment.

My wife was so distressed by these two incidents that she did not note the registration numbers of the two vehicles involved and we are therefore unable to identify the women concerned.

One of the cars was a Peugeot and one was a Mini.

There were however, plenty of witnesses to both incidents, including customers sitting outside Park’s Cafe.

If anyone who was in Victoria Square on that Saturday morning could help to identify the two women involved, this would be very helpful and I will pass this information on to the police.

I have informed police of these two unsavoury incidents.

If either of the women involved reads this letter, I hope they will reflect upon their unacceptable behaviour and understand why it is important to keep dropped kerbs free of obstruction by parked vehicles.
