On March 6, the AGM took place at Bromsgrove Golf Club.

Before business, there was a presentation made to a very special lady in the Club.

Brenda Graham, along with friends, started the club in 1985.

Brenda has devoted time and passion to the club as Secretary and lately as vice-chairman.

She has now given up her that role and is happy to be a member only. Mary Rutter, a lifelong friend and who also started the club, presented Brenda with a beautiful camelia patio plant for Brenda and Henry’s new home.

Brenda was delighted with the gift and gave a little speech of thanks.

Two new registrars, Beatrice Lodge and Doreen Moore, were nominated and accepted by b members. We had a most intriguing talk and film show by Mike Wilkes - ‘Tanzania Spectacular’.

The photography was outstanding and you felt as if you actually touch and feel the birds.

Mike has been travelling to Kenya on bush trips since 1982, sometimes twice a year and always finds yet another species of bird to photograph each time. For details about the club, call secretary Jill Betterton on 01527 872601.

Bromsrove U3A THE Speaker at the first General Meeting in March of the Bromsgrove U3A was one of the members, Peter Ward, with his talk entitled – Memories of a WW II Naval Veteran.

He recounted the various ships he served on as a radar operator, together with photos, and the areas that the ships operated, including the Russian Convoys. It certainly was a very interesting talk appreciated by the members, even more so by the fact that Peter had just celebrated his 92nd birthday. He explained that the conditions on the ships that he served on were pretty basic – hammocks were the usual form of sleeping accommodation which coped very well with the movements of the ship. He was also able to display the medals that he was awarded for his service.

We are continuing our series to introduce the various specialist groups that cater for the members interests – this time it is the Philosophical Discussion Group who meet at the home of the leader, who chooses the subject for their monthly discussions.
