WYRE Forest music lovers are invited to hear the sound of brass at the latest 'Music in the Chapel' recital.

Bewdley Methodist Church will host the event which takes place on Saturday July 21 at 2.30pm and will feature Birmingham-born long-time French Horn player Claire Burnell.

She received early tuition from Dudley Music Service before advancing to study with internationally recognised composer Professor Stephen Roberts, who currently works with brass players at the University of Birmingham.

The church will welcome the brass sound back into its halls for the first time since the chapel band was replaced by a harmonium in 1860 and allow attendees the experience to hear the French Horn as a solo instrument.

Claire will be accompanied by pianist Andrew Crabtree and will perform pieces spanning from 18th century composers such as Mozart, to contemporary writers such as Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Andrew Crabtree, who has previously impressed 'Music in the Chapel' guests, will also perform three solo piano pieces.

Funds raised will contribute to the church's ongoing support to the local community through its mission and outreach activities.

Tickets for the recital cost £8 including light refreshments, and can be booked by telephoning either Mike Dernie on 01299 400284 or Neil Sollom on 07780 650491, or by emailing mikedernie@aol.com or neilsollom@btinternet.com.
