PARENTS of year one pupils at Ombersley Endowed First School and Nursery launched the school’s annual charity bake off with a spooky Halloween themed cake sale.

The competition, which is now in its third year, sees parents of children in each of the different classes, compete against each other to raise money for the school, and parents got into the spirit of the competition with some tasty treats.

Mums, dads, grandparents and friends, baked and bought cakes which were decorated as everything from scary spider fairy cakes, to mummy cupcakes and gory but tasty severed fingers, all of which went up on sale at the school.

Headteacher Caroline Moore said: “A cake sale is a wonderful way to raise much needed funds. It is completely up to each of the classes how they promote their event but the aim is to make the most money using their combined baking and selling talents. At the end of the academic year, the winning class is presented with the fabulous Bake Off Cup and awarded the coveted title of Ombersley Bake Off Champions. The children are not told how much they have raised until all classes have competed.

“Our Year One children have made a fantastic start to the competition, so thank you and well done to all the families who have helped to make this first event a success.”

The Bake Off raises money to help support and supplement the children’s learning and development within their academic year, and each class gets to keep the money they have raised. The Bake Offs are organised by the Friends of Ombersley School, and last year’s saw approximately £700 raised for the school, with year one winning the Ombersley Bake Off crown. The next event will be hosted by year three on Friday, December 12.
