AN original one-woman show about space and the solar system comes to Stourbridge this weekend - thanks to a group of budding young promoters.

Students from Glasshouse College are learning about event promotion as part of their work on Black Country Touring's Young Promoters Scheme.

The project aims to get youngsters involved in every aspect of event promotion - and they have chosen A Strange New Space as their second show to promote.

A completely original one-woman show without words, A Strange New Space melds physical theatre with stunning puppetry and original music.

Theatre maker Tessa Bide's performance comes to the Glasshouse Arts Centre this Friday (June 22) at 6pm to tell Amira’s story.

Bide's show travels on an imagined voyage into space, paralleled with Amira’s real-life journey as a refugee across continents, for audiences of four years and older.

Justin Scriven, drama tutor at Glasshouse College said: "This particular play really stood out to the students and they were very eager to have it as part of the cultural events programme.

"They wanted to make sure that the events that they chose were accessible to a broad audience and the fact that this play is non-verbal was the primary selling point.

"The students have not only selected and promoted this event but will also be helping out behind the scenes and in front of house and technical theatre roles on the day of the performance."

Tickets for A Strange New Space cost £6 with free admission for under-fives. To purchase in advance, visit www.rmlt.org.uk/Event/a-strange-new-space or call 01384 399433.
