FRUIT giants Haygrove will welcome the public to their Newtown Farm in Newent as part of the nationwide Open Farm Sunday event, this weekend (June 10).

Chris Millson, Haygrove’s sustainability manager said the farm was keen to open the gates and showcase "what goes on behind the scenes"

He said "We’re really looking forward to showing everyone where our berries come from and how they’re produced. Open Farm Sunday is a great initiative and we’re very excited to be involved.

"Visitors of all ages are welcome, with activities for children, a bouncy castle, face painting and tractor and trailer rides all on offer. As well as this, visitors will have a chance to learn all about how Haygrove grow their strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and cherries."

The third generation of the Davison family, who own the farm, will be providing smoothies, fruit and their own ‘Sixteen Ridges’ wine and ‘Once Upon a Tree’ cider on the day.

From 1963 to 2000, Mark Davison farmed almost every crop imaginable at different times at Newtown Farm, but not fruit.

Since then, his son Angus has grown lilies and now berries.

Mr Millson said: "The team who run the farm are proud to measure their results across three bottom lines of people, profit and planet. Come and lean more."

Entry to Open Farm Sunday is free of charge, from 11pm to 4pm, and more information can be found on https://farmsunday.org/.

The farm is on Tewksbury Road and can be reached by searching for postcode GL18 1EB, and then following direction signs.
