MORE than 500 people took part in Pendock Primary School's sixth annual Spring Chicken Run.

The event saw runners of all ages take part in the fun 1k, 5k and 10k races, which have gained in popularity every year.

This year the run raised over £4,000 for the school which will go towards a new kitchen for the preparation of school meals.

Headteacher Sally Lyndon-Chance said: "We are extremely grateful to everyone who worked so hard to make the event a fantastic success again this year. It is a huge achievement and such a positive experience for the school and the wider community."

The event is organised by Class 1 teacher Jo Evans and husband Paul, and chair of governors Liz Tillott and husband Nigel.

Many members of the school and local community who provide help before, during and after the event.

The run provides a focus for extra-curricular sports activities and encourages fitness for pupils and other participants and is supported by their running clubs - Black Pear Joggers and Tewkesbury Running Club.

The event has been recognised as an outstanding sporting and community achievement by the Malvern Hills District Council Sports Award, wining 'Community Project of the Year' for 2016 and 2017.
