A REUNION is being organised for the former pupils who were the wide-eyed class of 1960, at Ledbury Grammar School.

The idea is the brainchild of David Roberts, himself a former student at the school, who now lives in West Wales.

Mr Roberts said: "I am organising a reunion of pupils who attended Ledbury Grammar School in the 1960s, but not just a general reunion.

"This one is solely for the class of 1960: those who started at the school in that year. We will all reach the age of 70 over the next 12 months, and many have not met since leaving school over half a century ago."

He added: "Ledbury Grammar School was not a large school; the year in question only contained 50 pupils, and I have managed to get around 20 so far to confirm attendance at our reunion on April 7, in Ledbury."

The group will meet up in the afternoon at the Seven Stars, in The Homend.

Mr Roberts added: "Some are travelling some distance; I live in West Wales, others are travelling from France, Shropshire, Somerset and Hampshire."

The former Grammar School, known as Upper Hall, and its extensive grounds was sold off a few years after closure in the early 1970s, and sold to a development company.

It then become a private residential estate.

But Mr Roberts has arranged for the reunion group to take a tour of the estate on April 7, although access will not be allowed in all areas.

In the meantime, Mr Roberts is using social media to help spread the news.

He said: "We have so far been using Facebook, and personal contacts to get in touch with everybody, but I am`aware that some have slipped the net, and possibly some people still living in the Ledbury area.

"And many pupils travelled from the Malvern area."
