RAIL PASSENGERS have had their account password reset after an attack on the Great Western Railway website.

The rail company has reset customer account passwords as a precaution and passengers are required to choose a new password when they next log into the site.

In an email to passengers, GWR said: “We wanted to let you know we have become aware of unauthorised attempts to gain access to a small number of GWR.com accounts over the past week.

“Our investigations indicate that no attempt was made to gain access to your account, and so any personal information you hold with us is safe.

"As part of our response we have reset your GWR.com password as a precaution.

"To ensure the security of your personal information you'll need to choose a new password when you next login to the GWR.com website.

"You should use a unique password for each of your accounts for maximum security, and we recommend you review all your online passwords and change any that are the same."

Passengers that have been affected by the breach have been contacted separately.
