MAKERS of popular TV show To Buy Or Not To Buy descended on Stourbridge once again as they helped an Oldbury couple to hunt for the house of their dreams.

Presenters Jenny Powell and Ed Hall had a go at glassblowing at Wordsley’s Red House Glass Cone on July 10, chatted to people on the streets of Stourbridge and once again visited their favourite town estate agents Walton & Hipkiss, which has been featured three or four times on the much-loved BBC property programme.

This time sales negotiator Steve Bayliss got to enjoy the limelight as he talked to former Wheel of Fortune hostess Jenny Powell about the Stourbridge property market.

She said afterwards, of her impromptu screen opposite: “He’s been a natural.”

Despite the current credit crunch and overall slump in the housing market programme-makers say they are not short of potential house hunters wanting to be on the show.

Director Becky Towers told the News: “The market has changed immensley and we’ve noticed a drop in prices, but there’s always houses on the market and we’re still getting plenty of people contacting us, there’s massive interest in the show.”

Meanwhile estate agent Andrew Hipkiss said house sales in the Stourbridge area had been overtaken by lettings - with families resorting to bidding wars to rent the property of choice.

Programme-makers would not reveal which house fitness fanatics Darrin and Marie Taggart from Oldbury opted to test drive and whether they decide to ‘barter or scarper’, but said the couple had a budget of £230,000 to spend and reseachers had picked out three potential three-bedroom homes in Norton, Kingswinford and Wordsley.

Director Becky added: “They want a big family home and to be near good schools if they start a family.”

The show, now in its ninth series, is likely to be screened in the autumn.
