YOUNGSTERS at a new LGBTQ+ community group in Bromsgrove will parade the streets of Worcester this weekend for the first ever Worcestershire Pride.

The Hub support group was set up last month, but has already attracted eight local youngsters, who meet weekly to socialise and receive one-on-one support from youth workers.

Group coordinator Sarah Mulhall, from YMCA Worcestershire, said: "The Hub was asked for by local young people and set up in partnership with them.

"It provides a safe place for them to receive group support, one-on-one support, advice on anything from gender identity to social media.

"The meetings also allow us to building a better picture of what these young people's needs are locally."

Members are now busy designing their signs and costumes for the Pride celebration this Saturday.

They will be playing music, offering glitter tattoos and running a fundraising stall for their community group at Worcestershire Pride, which is celebrating the county's rural identity with an 'Out in the Country' theme.

Pride treasurer Daniel Somerville said: "We are delighted to be able to help the young people of The Hub to attend Worcestershire Pride.

"This kind of support will directly benefit young LGBTQ+ people from Bromsgrove, helping them attend Pride, meet others and feel part of a community. It’s a very affirming and empowering experience.”

Bromsgrove residents are welcome to attend Worcestershire Pride parade, which sets off from Cathedral Square from 1pm, before making its way down Worcester High Street, onto Broad Street and then to The Fountains where there will be live music, poetry, a petting zoo, market and bar from 2pm.

The Hub meets in the basement of the New Road Bromsgrove Baptist Church every Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm. It is open to young people aged 11 to 19.
