A CREW of experienced rowers from Evesham are training hard for next month's Great Ouse Marathon.

The town rowing club’s Masters F coxless quad will compete in the 21.5km rowing race on Sunday, September 2, from Denver near Downham market heading upstream toward Ely. The crew is made up of Stroke Francis Pinkerton, 72, Bryan Hay, 70, Norman Baldwin, 67, and Rich Evans, 49. Their combined age is 258 years and they have all been club members for more than 40 years. Richard was a cox to the rest of the crew at various times since 1978 and now steers the boat from the bow seat.

Last year the same crew took on the 50km Boston Rowing Marathon, breaking the course record for the age group by over 28 minutes and ending up third overall on the day.

The quad have the course record in their sights, aiming to beat the current time of 1hr 36mins.
