SHOPPERS had to be evacuated from the Kingfisher Shopping Centre on Sunday after a fire broke out at fast food chain Burger King.

A total of 22 fire crew attended the rooftop blaze which involved air conditioning units, according to a fire service spokesman.

A spokesman at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre added: “Emergency services were called to the Kingfisher Shopping Centre in Redditch on Sunday, 12 August, following a fire within Burger King in The Hub.

“Burger King and neighbouring premises were evacuated as a safety precaution and the fire was extinguished. The safety of all our guests remains paramount at all times.

"Burger King will remain closed until further notice as repairs are being made. The rest of the Hub and centre is open today as usual. "

Five fire engines were called to the incident at 7.58pm and were able to extinguish the blaze by around 11pm, using thermal imaging cameras to find the source of the flames.
