LEDBURY is set to have its first full town council in months, thanks to forthcoming elections.

On Thursday, August 2, five candidates will contest three vacant seats for the Ledbury North ward, and two candidates will contest a vacant seat for the West Ledbury ward.

A recent run of resignations on the town council has been unprecedented and until last month, when Phillip Howells stood on the Liberal Democrat ticket in another election for the Ledbury North ward, and won the seat, there were five vacancies.

The candidates standing on August 2 for the North Ward include Julian Stanley William I'Anson of Cavendish House, Church Street (Independent); Dee-Linda Knight of Turner Court, Homend Crescent (Independent); Victoria Ann Low of Rose Cottage, Knapp Lane; Maria Anne Mackness of Sunnyside, Newbury Park (Labour), and Daniel Andris Vesma of South Parade (Local Dad).

The candidates for the Ledbury West Ward on August 2, will be Timothy Rae-Clarke of Turner Court and Dean Whattler of Teme Way (Active Retiree).

The polling station for the Ledbury North ward will be St Katherine's Hall, and the polling stations for the Ledbury North ward will be St Katherine's Hall and Ledbury Primary School.

Voting will be from 7am to 10pm.

With the five vacancies filled by Friday, August 3, Ledbury Town Council will be up to its full strength of 18 councillors.

The town council has seen troubled times in recent months.

Apart from the five councillors who resigned, including three former town mayors, six members of staff have also left their posts, including a town clerk.
