IT was a special 50th anniversary for a popular Halesowen theatre group who have marked their golden year with their first ever award.

Startime Variety claimed the National Operatic and Dramatic Association’s top prize for ‘Best Show’ following its 2017 production of Viva Las Vegas.

The 50th anniversary show was performed between June 28 and July 1 and was written and produced by Kirsty Shakespeare Walker and Leanne Ditchfield.

It was so well received that at NODA’s annual prize giving ceremony at Stourbridge Town Hall – honouring the best pantomimes and musicals put on by amateur dramatic societies – the group picked up the special ‘Best Show’ award.

Jeanette Greenway, group member, said: “It was the first time Startime had won an award, so all of the cast were really pleased.”

Startime’s next show – Cinderella – will be their annual pantomime, which will be on stage at Netherton Arts Centre from January 16 to 20 next year.
