THERE’S a wee treat in store for anyone in Worcester wanting to celebrate the life and works of Scottish poet Rabbie Burns this week.

Members of any local Scottish societies will no doubt attend a special event to mark the anniversary of the birth of the bard on Thursday January 25, but those looking for an alternative event can pop into the city’s two Wetherspoon pubs to get into the spirit of the occasion.

The Postal Order in Foregate Street and The Crown in Broad Street are hostinbg a Burns’ Week which starts today (Saturday January 20) and runs until Next Saturday (January 27).

On the menu will be two special meals to choose from – traditional haggis, neeps and tatties or the Highland burger (six ounce burger, haggis, whisky sauce, chips and beer-battered onion rings).

Robert Burns Ale from Scotland’s oldest brewery Belhaven Brewery in Dunbar will be available to complete the Scottish theme.

Both meals come in at under £6.50 with a choice of soft drink and under £7.50 with the choice of an alcoholic drink.

The Postal Order manager Robert Deeming said: “Burns’ Week is always great fun and our customers enjoy the fact that we celebrate for a week rather than just one day.”
