A WORCESTER woman joined with the millions of Americans that was captivated by the total eclipse on Monday, (August 21).

Millions used protective glasses, telescopes and cameras to look skyward in the States as the moon crept over and blocked the sun.

Warndon resident Hazel Browning made a special trip to the US to join them and experience the once in a lifetime event which took place on Monday afternoon.

Travelling out with husband Peter Browning, she met up with friends in Makanda, South Illnois - watching it in the middle of woods there.

"We had the longest totality of whole eclipse," she said.

"It was fantastic.

"It was a very emotional experience - the sounds were amazing even a wild coyote and deer came out the woods saw a few bats fly over the crickets was heard, and the temperature dropped from 105f to 80f for 2 mins and 40 seconds."

The Windermere Road resident took an impressive picture just before the totality period, and also filmed live on Facebook.

The last total solar eclipse in the UK was in 1999, and the next one will be in August, 2026.

Mrs Browning added they were now staying out in America to enjoy their holiday, having already met Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osborne, and travelling on to Memphis to see Elvis' Graceland mansion.
