A DRIVER was found to be more than four times over the legal drink-drive limit after she crashed with a tree in Belbroughton this afternoon.

North Worcestershire Police and an Operation Patrols Unit were called to the scene off the A491 Fairfield roundabout around 12.30pm today (Tuesday, August 22).

A roadside breathalyser test identified a staggering 167 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of the driver's breath - almost five times the legal limit.

The motorist, a 32-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries in the crash.

She has been detained by officers and is now receiving medical treatment.

Police are expected to take an evidential sample at the police station.

OPU Worcestershire posted on Twitter shortly after the crash: "Assisting @NWorcsCops with an RTC in Belbroughton. Driver was drunk and has blown 167 at the roadside!! Luckily minor injuries #fatal4."

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that they received a call at 12.30pm at the junction of the A491 and B4091.

She added: “One ambulance attended. We have treated one woman who suffered hand injuries and she was taken to the Alexandra Hospital.

“Two off-duty ambulance staff were at the scene when the ambulance arrived.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward, quoting incident number 299s on 101.
