A RABBIT rescue group in Malvern has been faced by a baby boom with some fluffy new arrivals.
Rabbit Rescue and Friends has just taken on four female rabbits that had 30 babies between them.
The group was contacted by a breeder who had seen the rabbits advertised as free to a good home, but was unable to cope with the amount of babies they had.
Mother rabbits and babies are all healthy and doing well, with the smallest being given extra feeding to help her growth.
Rabbit Rescue founder, Jai Barnes, said: “We are a small rescue group but couldn’t ignore the plight of these mothers and their little ones. We don’t usually get as many new arrivals as this at once, but it highlights the growing issue of abandoned pets in Worcestershire.”
None of the rabbits are ready to be rehomed yet, so the group is trying to raise over £1,000 so that they can afford to buy hutches for the baby bunnies.
Mr Barnes added: “We desperately need caring local people and businesses to help us fundraise for the new accommodation - whatever they can raise will make all the difference.”
Rabbit Rescue was established in 2014 and the volunteers help rehome more than 60 rabbits per year. Since 2012 around 67,000 rabbits have been given to animals shelters across the UK each year.
