WORSHIPPERS will gather at Hereford Cathedral to be part of a global prayer movement.

The Diocese of Hereford is holding its first ‘beacon’ event as part of Thy Kingdom Come, which runs from May 25 to June 4.

Last year more than 100,000 Christians of all denominations joined with the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to pray during the 10 days between Ascension and Pentecost.

As part of the week on Sunday, June 4 hundreds of people will gather at Hereford Cathedral for a service of praise and prayer, centred around the Lord’s Prayer, with an address by the Bishop of Hereford, the Rt Revd Richard Frith.

There will also be activities for children in Cathedral Close, run by Messy Church groups and opportunities for children to join in the service.

Christians of other denominations are also involved and Herefordshire Churches Together is supporting the event.

The event runs from 2.30pm until 6.15pm (with a bring your own picnic in the middle) and is free of charge and open to all. Those coming are asked to wear something red if they can (traditionally worn at Pentecost to represent fire).

The service at Hereford Cathedral is among 33 cathedrals across the country taking part.

The Dean of Hereford, the Very Reverend Michael Tavinor is also making his #Pledge2Pray as part of the week by hosting a pilgrimage walk ‘In the Steps of St Ethelbert from Marden to Hereford.' He will give a guided talk along the route and there will be regular prayer stops.

As well as the event at Hereford Cathedral many churches and other groups are holding their own events, including prayer walks, craft sessions and 24/7 prayer rooms.
