A PENSIONER has spoken of the moment a car left the road, demolishing his hedge and fence.

The crash outside Frog Hall Lodge, Naunton Road, Upton Snodsbury, near Worcester happened at around 2.30pm on Tuesday.

The photos show a black Peugeot with damage to the front including the bumper, headlights and the numberplate which is hanging off. Debris is strewn over the road and the windscreen of the car is wrapped in police tape.

Homeowner John Heath said the hedge struck by the car was around 15ft from the front of his house.

His family were out when the crash happened and they returned to find the aftermath, captured here in these photographs.

The 75-year-old returned from a 10 mile walk with his walking group at about 3.30pm and he said the driver of the car, a woman he estimates to be about 35 years old, was driving the car at the time.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed a woman was treated at the scene but was uninjured and therefore did not require hospital treatment.

Mr Heath said: “It seems she had veered off the road along the verge and hit a telegraph pole before crashing into our hedge and fence, spinning around and ending up in the middle of the road. Half of the fence has gone.

“My son drove out of the drive five minutes before it happened. It could have been very different.

"There were bits of debris all over the road and verges. She wasn't hurt."

Mr Heath said he spoke to the driver when she returned and she told him she did not know how it had happened. Mr Heath described a similar incident along a different stretch of the same road.

He understands she was travelling from work in the direction of Evesham when the crash happened.

Mr Heath has lived at the detached lodge, which he built himself, for the last 48 years and says nothing like that has ever happened outside his home before.

He does not yet know how much it will cost to repair the damage but he and his wife are considering installing a wall there instead.

The Worcester News is waiting a response from West Mercia Police.
