A STOURPORT baby has been fitted with a special helmet to help treat her rare skull defect - shortly after her mother issued a heartfelt plea to help raise funds for the treatment.

Nine-month-old Liliarna Oram-Turner, who was born with severe plagiocephaly, was fitted with the helmet - a specially-made TiMBand Helmet - last week.

She has a flattened skull which requires the urgent helmet treatment, but as the NHS does not fund it, Liliarna's mother, Emily-Jane Oram-Turner set up a JustGiving page and issued a heartfelt plea in the Shuttle on May 11, to help raise money.

Liliarna's defect is so severe that she will need two helmets - which will cost nearly £4,000. So far, £2,840 has been raised by the family and well-wishers.

The first helmet was made and shipped over from America and Liliarna was fitted with it at a clinic in Bristol on Tuesday, May 16.

Her mother, Emily-Jane said: "Liliarna is doing great with her new helmet.

"Saturday evening was the first night she had to sleep in her helmet and she slept great - it hasn't bothered her at all.

"She's now wearing her helmet 23 hours a day.

"She will get her second helmet in about six months time - maybe less depending on her growth spurts.

"We still have money to raise for the second helmet. Please donate whatever you can and if you can't donate, please share and raise awareness so in the future we can help other children."

The family are also hoping to arrange to have collection tins in local shops to help raise more funds.
