A HOMEBUILDER donated funds to help Bromsgrove students with emotional, learning and behavioural difficulties tackle a triathlon.

The 13 teens, who all attend Blackwell special education technology college Hunters Hill, cycled 64 miles, walked 15 miles and swam 800m to raise money for disadvantaged youths across the region.

David Wilson Homes, which is behind the new Gilbert's Lea development off the A38, sponsored the students with £250 towards accommodation and transport to the Isle of Wight, where they will complete the challenge.

Mike Johnson, challenge leader at Hunters Hill School, said: "The Hunters Hill Isle of Wight triathlon challenge was an amazing experience for our young people to work towards and take part in.

“All aspects of the challenge were made more demanding by the wet weather, however all 13 students taking part persevered and completed the triathlon. Many of the students said it was the toughest and best event they had ever taken part in."

The group set out on Tuesday, May 16 and completed the triathlon on Friday, May 19.

Philippa Stewart, sales manager at David Wilson Homes, said: "We’re delighted to hear that our sponsorship enabled the students to overcome the challenge and that all 13 students successfully completed the triathlon."

The college is hoping to raise £4,000 from the event to fund further educational trips to inspire its students.
