REDDITCH golden girl Claire Cashmore will help honour the town's heroes who have gone the extra mile to help disabled people.

The Paralympic gold and silver medallist will be the special guest speaker at this year’s No Barriers Awards, which will be held on April 7 at Redditch Town Hall.

The awards, hosted by Disability Action Redditch, are given to an individual or organisation who have gone that extra mile, for people with disabilities, but are not usually recognised in the community.

Anita Clayton, chairman of Disability Action Redditch, said: "We are so pleased to have Claire with us for the afternoon. She is an inspiration to those with a disability, and I am so looking forward to hear how she has coped with her disability, and how she has achieved this great accomplishment.

"There are a lot of unsung heroes in our town and this is a way of showing our appreciation to those who deserve it, and do not get any recognition"

The nominations are in three categories.

People can nominate an individual, a business, or a community group.

The forms for the awards can be obtained from the Kingfisher Shopping Centre or via 07737317493.

Closing date is Friday, March 3 at 4pm.
