DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses following a crash involving a teenage moped rider in Rowley Regis.

The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, January 30 in Rowley Village, at the junction with Mackmillan Road.

Declan Osbourne, 16 years old, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

He was riding a moped which was in collision with a red Honda Civic at around 9.20pm.

The driver of the Honda Civic left the scene before police arrived. The car has been seized and a 24-year-old local man was arrested on Tuesday, February 2, in connection with the offence, he was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The family of Declan have released a statement: "We are devastated about what has happened, you never think that something like this would happen to your family.

"We would like to thank the people who helped Declan. We ask that people kindly respect our privacy at this time.’’ Anyone with information should call police on 101 and ask for PC Byrne at Collision Investigation Unit.
