STAFF from Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) have been rolling up their sleeves to help out some vulnerable residents in the area.

More than 20 members of staff from the housing provider, together with contractors from Travis Perkins and Vogue Roofing, pulled out shovels and rakes and set to work tending to gardens in Aston Fields, Catshill and Sidemoor as part of a special community day.

The initiative was organised by Shaun Banks who is a voids manager at bdht, and identified a number of vulnerable residents, who might need help with their gardens.

He said: “I noticed a few of our vulnerable residents’ gardens were getting a bit overgrown and many of them are not able to keep on top of the gardening themselves. I thought it would be a great idea to get our staff out and about in the community helping our vulnerable residents out and tidying up the local area at the same time.”

Nicole Hines, a mother of four, benefitted from the work. She added: “It’s really exciting to have a lovely garden for the children to play in. Things are moving forward and starting to get sorted so that we can have a nice life. A big thanks to bdht.”

Mike Brown, chief executive at bdht, said: “Getting out and about in the local community and supporting our vulnerable residents is an important part of the service we offer here at bdht. We don’t just provide homes, we also provide support, care and understanding. It’s great to see the teams mucking in and enjoying their work while helping our vulnerable residents by improving their garden areas for their enjoyment and enhancing the local area too. Good work everyone.”
