POLICE battered down a door in a block of flats after an early-morning disturbance in Worcester.

Officers responded to people shouting in the street on Diglis Dock Road just after 5am this morning (May 28) and have launched a probe into potential anti-social behaviour.

During their inquiries, they forced entry to a property which had two people inside after the occupants failed to reply to officers at the door.

When questioned, the pair in the flat said they had no involvement with the anti-social behaviour.

One eyewitness described at least four police cars parking up in Diglis at around 5.20am, with officers wielding a battering ram to force entry to a ground-floor apartment.

The witness alleged that obscene language was used by three people involved in the incident.

A West Mercia Police spokeswoman confirmed officers were called out to "a disturbance" on Diglis Dock Road and an investigation into an anti-social behaviour offence is ongoing.

So far no arrests have been made.

The spokeswoman said: "We were called at 5.10am and officers went along.

"We were told there was a disturbance and people shouting in the street.

"Officers gained entry to a property where they thought the people were, but weren't able to confirm they were involved as the [the two people inside] claimed they weren't.

"They had to force entry, as they knocked at the door a few times and shouted, but no-one answered so they had to check everyone was ok in there."

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number 42 of May 28.
