THEATRE-goers in Droitwich are in for a treat of a summer, with two plays and an evening of music on offer at Hanbury Hall over the next two months.

The first to come to the National Trust property is an outdoor production of the Shakespearean classic ‘Twelfth Night’ from the Lord Chamberlain’s Men on Thursday, June 25, which should bring an evening of mischief and mayhem, as well as laughter and love to the property.

Then on Saturday, June 27 there will be an outdoor concert ‘English Music for a Summer Evening’, which will feature music and spoken word set within the restored early 18th century gardens of Hanbury Hall. There will be readings from Shakespeare and Housman as well as music arranged by Worcestershire’s Dr. Donald Hunt who will lead a specially formed choir of professional singers and violinist.

Finally on Saturday, July 18, Heartbreak Productions are stopping at Hanbury Hall as part of their national tour of Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’, which has been adapted for the theatre and is set in the Regency period when the house was built, with the cheeky heroine attempting to try her best at matchmaking.

Visitors are invited to bring their own picnic to enjoy before the performances, along with low backed chairs or picnic blankets to sit on, although no barbecues or patio umbrellas are permitted.

Rachael Trimm, visitor services manager for Hanbury Hall, said: “It’s always a pleasure to welcome two such acclaimed theatre groups to Hanbury Hall. The concert will be the first at Hanbury Hall – and hopefully not the last. The gardens here are a magnificent setting for outdoor entertainment and it’s always advisable to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
