PUPILS at Tardebigge CofE First School had the chance recently to become ‘smart scientists’ for the day, and learn how to save energy.

The event, which saw year four pupils take part in a workshop to find out all about where energy comes from and how it can be used, was organised as part of E.ON’s Smart Kids education programme.

The children got to don white lab coats and work against the clock, helping Professor Smart Alec regain his smartness by the end of their lesson.

Julie Cutler, headteacher at Tardebigge CofE First School, said: “The Smart Kids workshop is a great way for children to learn all about energy and how to use it wisely in the home in a fun and interactive way. The session was pitched at the right level and the children were really engaged with the activities from the beginning.

“Professor Smart Alec and his sidekick Neon Bright were very entertaining and both the children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the session. The pupils have learned some useful tips which they can take home and use around the house to help them and their families to save energy.”

Adam Greenslade, operations manager for E.ON’s onshore wind business and volunteer at the Tardebigge CofE First School session, said “I really enjoyed volunteering and being part of this activity and to have the opportunity to support my children’s school with E.ON’s educational activity is great. The children got really involved in the activities and there was such a buzz of excitement in the classroom, which was lovely to see. I particularly enjoyed the wind turbine experiment as this is the area of E.ON that I work in and so it was interesting to see the children learning about this.”
