STUDENTS and staff from a technology college in Blackwell are being sponsored in a gruelling fundraising triathlon by a national law firm.

Pupils and teachers from Hunter’s Hill Technology College are currently taking part in the North to South (N2S) Triathlon Challenge, which sees them swim, cycle and run 200 miles over four days from Caemarfon in north Wales to the finish line in Cardiff.

They race takes place from May 18-21, and the competitors will be raising money for the college, which is a registered charity.

Hunter’s Hill caters to young people aged 11 to 16 from all over north Worcestershire and Birmingham, who have been identified as having moderate learning, emotional and behavioural difficulties with a wide variety of needs.

Solicitors Irwin Mitchell, has provided the participants with cycling tops for the event, as well as offering sponsorship, and all money raised from the triathlon will be used to purchase new equipment within the education and sport departments.

Lisa Jordan, a partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Birmingham office, said: “We are proud to be sponsoring the students from Hunter’s Hill Technology College as they embark on this challenge throughout north and south Wales.

“We would like to wish all the competitors the best of luck and hope that they all take pride in taking part in such a huge challenge and work together to get everyone past the finish line.”

Mike Johnson, head of physical education from Hunter’s Hill Technology College, added: "This is a fantastic chance for all those who are taking part to experience a challenge that will provide them with an opportunity to gain confidence in their ability to achieve.

“It will highlight to each individual the satisfaction of pushing through both physically and mentally and to overcome difficulties which will ultimately raise their self-esteem. This group activity offers our students a unique opportunity for team building where they will all work together to motivate each other to successfully complete this challenge."
