POLICE in Rubery have received a number of complaints about the way that people are driving near Waseley Hills High School.

Members of Rubery Safer Neighbourhood Team have been receiving complaints from several residents, including school children, about people driving the wrong way around the mini traffic island outside the school, in some cases narrowly avoiding collisions.

The offenders motorists have been driving down Gunner Lane towards School Lane, before cutting across the wrong side of the island instead of driving around it properly.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “The island is designed to slow vehicles down on the approach and is deliberately ‘dog legged’ for this purpose because of the proximity to a school. This is to protect children walking to and from school, however, some drivers consider this an inconvenience and take the straight line directly across putting other road users in danger.”

Cutting across the traffic island is a traffic offence, which is to section 36 of the Road traffic Act 1988 and Regulations 10(1) and 16(1) of the Traffic Signs Regulations and general directions.

If anyone would like to discuss the issue further, they should contact Pc Tim Burling at Rubery Police Station.
