HAGLEY and Clent residents are being invited to officially have their say over the future of their parishes, after Bromsgrove District Council agreed on a consultation into boundary changes.

Bromsgrove District Council’s Electoral Matters Committee, which met recently to discuss the changes, has officially put forward a draft recommendation for a consultation on the transfer of land from Clent to Hagley parish, which was triggered by a petition from electors in the Hagley parish as part of the Community Governance Review.

The recommendation from the committee suggests that the two areas of land which were included in the original map sent with the petition, both of which are currently under the administration of Clent Parish Council, should be incorporated into Hagley parish.

These include the land around Newfield Road and Thicknall Lane, Western Road, Meadow Croft, Pinewoods Avenue, Kidderminster Road South, Thicknall Rise, South Road and Newfield Place, an area which jointly includes 500 households.

Parishioners from Hagley Residents Action Group originally launched the petition several months ago after complaints that they were picking up the bill for community facilities, which they didn’t get to use.

The current parish boundary dates back to the earliest formation of the villages, and has been called outdated, with a vote over the proposed changes put to local residents, seeing 75 per cent of them agree with the idea of moving the boundary.

Residents will be able to have their say on the proposals from now until Tuesday, June 30. To view the petition map of the proposed land transfer area, visit bromsgrove.gov.uk and write to elections@bromsgroveandredditch.gov.uk with any views on the proposals.
