A YOUNGSTER from Bromsgrove has used the spirit of enterprise to raise money for his school’s chosen charity.

Tom Martin who is deputy head boy at Winterfold House school in Chaddersley Corbett, was given £10 along with all the pupils in his year at school just before the school broke up for the half term holiday, and asked if he could turn it into more over his week’s break, for the school to help support a primary school in South Africa-Ncemaneni in Natal through the ‘build a school’ project.

Despite being met with a little scepticism, 12-year-old Tom decided to use his money to buy a stock of flowers from Morrisons and Aldi to sell locally around the Oakalls and Parkland estates.

Complete with a letter from his mum and dad, as well as pictures of the school, and a full practised sales patter, Tom walked the streets of both estates for four days with his sister and a number of his friends, and going out in all weathers, managed to sell 116 bunches of flowers to residents for the charity, raising a truly impressive £343.50 for the school fund.

His mum and dad, Helen and David Martin, said: “We naturally are very proud of his achievements, but wanted to say a big thank you to the local community for their support and to let them know that their money went to a very good cause.”
