THOUGHTLESS dog owners in Catshill might find themselves presented with a reminder to clean up after their dogs the next time they take their dog for a walk after residents have taken matters into their own hands.

Local residents are taking advantage of Bromsgrove District Council’s Mucky Pup campaign to clean-up the Catshill Meadow, which is a hot-spot for dog mess.

Members of Catshill Meadow Group, and council officers took a tour of the meadow recently, as well as several other areas in the village, to stencil messages to dog owners on pathways, serving as a gentle reminder to ‘pick up the poo’.

Bromsgrove district councillor Mark Bullivant, whose portfolio covers environmental services, said: “It’s not just about the health risks which dog-fouling poses, it is about having pride in where you live. And how can residents feel proud when the pavements and public spaces are littered with faeces?

“I welcome this initiative and hope these inconsiderate dog owners take note, I also want to thank the Catshill Meadow Group for their hard work.”

The stencilling scheme is the latest initiative in the council’s Mucky Pup campaign, which up until now has been limited to posters and roadside signs encouraging people to clean up after their dogs.

The stencil itself will wear away from pavements after a short time, but it is hoped that the effects of the campaign will linger, possibly spreading to other areas of Bromsgrove.

Anyone who knows of particular dog fouling hot-spots, which might benefit from the stencil scheme, should get in touch with the council on 01527 881188.
