TWO ex-smokers from Bromsgrove have shared their experiences of trying to quit in light of National No Smoking Day.

Sarah and Simon Fisher have just reached six weeks smoke free, after smoking for more than 20 years, and they joined in with the day’s theme of ‘Proud to be a Quitter’ on March 11.

Mrs Fisher said: “My husband and I both smoked around 30 a day. At our first stop smoking appointment we spent over an hour discussing the best treatment and support plans for both of us.

“I found the service very valuable in helping me quit. The service is tailored to your individual needs and provides regular, consistent and encouraging support. I’m very proud to call myself a quitter.”

The couple were both helped by the free Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust stop smoking service, which offers everything from advice and support, to nicotine replacements, including patches and inhalators, all of which are available year round.

Stop smoking adviser Heidi Hulbert said: “With help from your local NHS Stop Smoking Service you’re up to four times more likely to quit than if you go it alone. We offer expert, friendly advisers; stop smoking medicines; carbon monoxide checks; one to one support and helpful information and we will be with you every step of the way.”
