RUBERY Post Office saw its doors close to the public on Saturday, March 15, but all in a good cause as it is being modernised.

Work on the Post Office is due to be completed by Friday, March 27, and will see four counter positions in place, one of which will be a modern screened position, along with two open-pan counters, and a combi-counter where a Post Office terminal will sit alongside a retail till.

The branch is increasing its opening hours by an extra 13 hours and 30 minutes each week, opening from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and will offer all the traditional Post Office services including mailing international parcels, Special Delivery, Local Collect and home shopping returns. Customers will also be able to make cash withdrawals from a Post Office card account, send funds abroad using Moneygram, pay bills, buy holiday money, get insurance, mortgages and savings and top up mobile phones.

Mark Jacobs, area manager for the Post Office, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future. The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

While the refurbishments are underway, customers will be able to find their nearest Post Office at either Longbridge Supermarket from 1706 – 1708 Bristol Road South in Rednal, or at 773 Bristol Road in Northfield.
