TWO people were rescued from the River Severn yesterday.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were first called to the River near Kleve Walk at 1am to reports of a person in the water.

Crews got the person out of the water and they were taken to hospital for further checks and treatment.

The fire service were then called again at 10.30am to reports of a woman in the river near Worcester Rowing Club.

When the fire service arrived, members of the rowing club had already rescued the woman, who was then taken to hospital.

Watch commander Dave Smith said: "When we arrived police and ambulance were already on scene and the woman had been pulled on to a boat by the rowing club.

"She was semi-concious so we don't know how she came to be in the river but she was taken to hospital for treatment."

Matthew Ballone, who works as a cook at the rowing club, said: "The club usually meet on weekend mornings. I was preparing some sandwiches when I heard the emergency services turn up outside. I went to see what was going on. I saw a woman in the water and she looked like she was in trouble. Our junior co-ordinator, Peter, pulled her out of the water to safety."
