A YOUNG photographer from Bromsgrove has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award for an image taken of giant gears at a rail firm.

Marcus Milton took his photograph ‘New Gears’ at Wabtec Rail in Burton on Trent, before submitting it to the EEF/Lombard ‘Make it Britain’ photography competition.

Marcus was shortlisted in the ‘young photographer’ category, and his photograph will now go on display at an awards ceremony in the House of Commons in December where the winner will be announced.

He said: “I was delighted to find out I’d been shortlisted for this award and knowing my work will be displayed in the House of Commons is the icing on the cake. Manufacturing offers endless opportunities for creative, dramatic and eye-catching images, but the tricky part is really capturing its essence and therefore the imagination of the judges.”

The competition aims to raise the profile of British manufacturing by showcasing the industry’s creativity, diversity and heritage through inspiring photography.

Dr David Clark, executive secretary of the ERA Foundation, which is running the competition, added: “This competition is about capturing the spirit of modern-day manufacturing and Marcus has to be congratulated for taking a standout photograph that does exactly that. His image successfully captures the rich innovation, excitement and importance of industry in Britain today and I can’t wait to see it displayed in Parliament to maximum effect.”
