THE red carpet will be rolled out on the streets of Evesham next year as film stars fill floats for the first carnival in the town for seven years.

Evesham will definitely be welcoming back the event, promising to be the best the town has ever seen, on Saturday, June 6.

The day will see floats and entertainment following the theme of at the movies throughout the town.

Following the official announcement of the return of the carnival, which is thanks in part to the backing of Karndean Designflooring, the committee have also revealed a range of events in the run up to the big day.

Sarah Cope, on behalf of the carnival committee, said: "The public response to restarting the Evesham Carnival has been amazing and now having Karndean’s support is a wonderful enhancement.

"Evesham Round Table working together with the Carnival sub committees are planning the best Evesham Carnival ever with a whole days entertainment after the procession of floats around the town.

"The carnival is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Evesham to come together have fun and raise some funds for local good causes and charities."

A competition to design the carnival queen's dress is now open and will close on January 18. There will be a template available online and entries can be posted to Base Point Business Centre, Crab Apple Way, Evesham.

The king and queen will be crowed at a pageant taking place on Saturday, January 10, with sign up open from 10am in the Riverside Shopping Centre.

Deputy Mayor of Evesham, councillor Fred Kaler, will be judging the competition.

He said: "It's fantastic for the town. I think it's a great idea. It will do wonders for Evesham. People have been talking about it on and off for some town.

"I can remember being in the carnival myself about 18 years ago dressed as a mayor."

The coronation of the king and queen will take place on January 17 at Evesham Town Hall when there will also be an auction.

Evesham Carnival movie quiz will be on February 22 at the Amber Cafe and there will be a Mr Muscle competition on April 25 held at Evesham Crown Meadow.

On May 10 there will be a car boot at Hampton Ferry.

The carnival battle of the bands will take place from May 22 to 24 next year at the Iron Road Rock Bar at the Railway Hotel.
