A PAIR of cancer charities have joined forces to provide specialist help for people in Worcestershire living with brain tumours.

Macmillan Cancer Support and Bristol-based Brian Tumour Support have appointed six new brain tumour support workers to bring specialist support to patients across the Midlands and the South West.

Louise Tully is one of the new support workers covering Worcestershire, Warwickshire and the Coventry area and has been in post since July and said she had been trained to provide a wide range of support such as finding accommodation near hospitals for family members.

“However, much of what I do is simply listening and being there for people when they need someone,” she said.

“No two people will have the same experience so my aim is to tailor the support to meet the patient, carer and their loved ones needs, where possible.”

About 16,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year.

Macmillan Development Manager added Maggie Crowe welcomed the new project, saying: “By funding these posts, we hope that nobody in the Midlands and South West will have to face a brain tumour diagnosis alone.”
