A KIND hearted animal sanctuary founder in the Vale has been recognised for her outstanding dedication and commitment by an animal charity.

Janet Taylor, who set up the Farm Animal Sanctuary at Manor Farm Orchard, Middle Littleton, near Evesham, has been rescuing animals for 25 years.

It began when she visited a sheep auction in Worcestershire and ended up rescuing a lamb from certain death. It went on to live until age 15.

During that 25 years Ms Taylor has cared for and saved the lives of thousands of other animals as well and it is because of this she was presented with the award by the UK-based Vegetarian and Vegan Campaigning Charity, Viva!

While Ms Taylor couldn't go to the ceremony she has since been sent a certificate recognising her award in the post.

Ms Taylor said: "They contact us for advice and they support us with adoptions. We have been working with them for about 10 years now.

"It is nice to be recognised by them for my work. You don't think about it when you are doing it because you are just getting on with it. But it's great, the award is an honour."

The award has also proved a welcome boost as Ms Taylor is still at the centre of a legal battle with the land owner of the farm and could face eviction.

The Journal last reported in July how the farm and its occupants could be forced to leave after the battle between Ms Taylor and land owner Patricia Bernie - who states she does not wish to harm the animals - once again re-surfaced.

Ms Taylor added: "We are still waiting and nothing is moving on. So we are just sitting tight."

Currently the sanctuary is caring for 450 sheep, three cattle, 12 pigs, 10 horses and ponies and a varied assortment of poultry.

It requires £2,500 to run per week and anyone who would like to offer their support should visit thefarmanimalsanctuary.co.uk.
