POLICE are reminding the public to be vigilant after an attempted fraud in Redditch.

The incident happened on Tuesday, October 28 at around 12.15pm, when a 72-year-old woman received a phone call from somebody claiming to be a police officer from Hammersmith West London Police.

He said he was ringing her as he believed she had been robbed and police were holding two men in connection with the robbery. He then asked the victim for her bank details.

She became suspicious and hung up the phone. No financial details were disclosed.

The public are reminded to never give out their bank details over the phone. The police or someone's bank will never ask for them.

If in doubt, people should call the real police on 101. If possible, the people should make sure the line is clear. They can do this by using a different telephone to the one that received the suspicious call, or by making a call to someone they know before calling 101.

Police are also urging residents to look out for elderly relatives, friends and neighbours following this incident and to report any suspicious activity to police.

People can also give information anonymously by calling the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111 or by visiting crimestoppers-uk.org.
