DUDLEY Council says it has despatched emergency crews to Worcester Street in Stourbridge which has been hit by flooding this afternoon (Friday.

Residents say water has been lapping close to their doorsteps following the downpours and water was also reportedly rising once again the subway by the ring road.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member responsible for flooding, said: “We have received a call from a resident following the heavy downpour we had this afternoon about localised flooding in Stourbridge.

“We have emergency crews going out to the scene to assess the problem.

“Unfortunately, issues beyond the council’s control such as torrential rain in the volumes we had this afternoon, can cause areas of flooding but we will look to see if any work can be carried out to bring the water levels down or working partners on any issues beyond our control.

“In the short term, we have made additional sandbags available to residents in the affected area and have equipment on site to pump out any excess water if necessary.”
