A PROPOSAL to build 16 houses on the site of allotments, a tennis court and the car park adjacent to Aston Fields Workmen’s Club was the subject of an appeal held at Bromsgrove Council House. The application by club trustees to carry out the development of their land between Stoke Road and Marlborough Avenue was opposed by the council and residents. The first part was heard with cases for and against. The developers challenged the council’s original reasons for refusal and pointed out that only six of 32 allotments had tenants.
à WINDSOR Street, described by the Messenger as the most violent S bend in the district, had been completely cleared of its old properties. A site, where cottages once stood, was now to be used as a car park, while the S bend was replaced with a road running to Chapel Street.
Plans were in place to build a new fire station, public library and county offices nearby.
