A FINAL attempt by Labour councillors to save an old people’shomeinBromsgrovefrom privatisation was defeated by Hereford and Worcester County Council.Aresolution calling on the home, in School Lane, to be immediately occupied by needy old people was moved by Councillor Terry O’Reilly, but the majority Tory group voted against it. Coun O’Reilly said: “It is extremely sad that this purpose-built home is going to remain empty throughout the winter when the prospect of severe weather is very likely.”

TOURISM bosses in Bromsgrove had called for changes to be made to a £5,000 video ordered by the district council to promote the town. Councillors said they were disappointed with the end result, saying that there were a lot of people chatting and not a lot of Avoncroft or Hagley Hall. They asked for more emphasis on what visitors could do day-today.

PLANS were underway to turn Bromsgrove’s youth centre into a popular community sports complex and a £30,000 blueprint had been drawn up.

Poor changing, shower and toilet facilities and a lack of daytime staff were being blamed for keeping the public away, as well as time being given to schools who used the centre.

The long term aim was to have the centre open to the public seven days a week.
