PIONEERING plans to launch Bromsgrove's first community radio station were unveiled by a local businessman, Mike Bowen. He hoped to get a local station on air in the town within 12 months, costing £80,000 a year and employing 15 people.

The ambitious plan had been sparked by a government white paper on the future of radio and television, which opened up possibilities for hundreds of new community based stations.

 CHARITIES were to be given free use of a kiosk in Sanders Park, aftermembersof the district council's recreation and amenities committee backed a plan to let local groups use the kiosk for fund-raising. Charities were to be allowed to use the kiosk on a monthly or weekly basis to help raise money.

 BROMSGROVE councillors decided that a 'problem' play area in Charford should be abandoned.

It was decided that the site in Lyttleton Avenue should be dismantled until six months after the refurbishment of the first block of flats.

The move followed a site visit by councillors earlier in the month to consider re-siting the play area.

 Memory Lane is compiled from the papers dating back to the Messenger's first edition in 1860. The papers are free to view at Bromsgrove Library, in Stratford Road.
