THE Bromsgrove Town Hall clock had not struck for three weeks and was not likely to resume work until its complaint had been investigated and its works properly adjusted.
The clock had lost its striker’s lead, the disappearance of which was a mystery. The clock was telling the time correctly as usual, but could not strike the hours because the weight was lost, stolen or strayed. The police had so far been unable to unravel the mystery.
THERE was a sensational occurrence in Fairfield when a man was discovered by the roadside with his throat cut. No vital parts were severed and he was conveyed to the Bromsgrove Workhouse where he was given nine stitches. He said he had been headed toward Stourbridge after drinking with a Londoner he knew as Cock, but he couldn’t remember what had happened. The other man was arrested and questioned, but immediately released as he was elderly and feeble. The matter was left unresolved.
