BROMSGROVE School received a bomb threat with an unidentified caller telling the secretary: “There’s a bomb in your study.” A fire engine and police hurried to the schooland began to make a search. Then 15 minutes after the first call, the phone rang again and the secretary answered, to be told: “There’s a bomb in your house.”Thepolicesearchofthe study revealed nothing and the call was exposed as a hoax.

A 25-YEAR-old Barnt Green man, travelling in Saigon, South Vietnam, escaped unhurt after being captured by Communist guerrillas. Alan Darbywasona scooter with his Scottish friend Duncan Kinnaird when they were stopped by a Vietnamese with a light machine-gun. He fired at them, hitting Mr Kinnaird in the leg, but Mr Darby was unhurt. He then told Mr Darby to walk toward nearby jungle leaving his friend. American planes and helicopterscameto his rescue and his captors ran for cover.

 IT was announced at a meeting of Alvechurch Parish Council that a pedestrian crossing was to be installed. Pressure on the Ministry of Transport by the county council, with the backing of Alvechurch Parish Council, met with success and the crossing was to be near the square, opposite the footpath leadingdowntothevillagehall.

Members thought this was the best site and that it would contribute to slowing down the speed of traffic through the village.
